MAY is National Mental Health Awareness Month!

We thought it was an appropriate time to remind you that family physicians are well-placed to catch depression in patients early, and be reimbursed.

The American Academy of Family Physicians Although reminds us that depression screening is not new for many family physicians, and recommends expanding those screens to most adult patients, with a particular focus on women in the peripartum period.

Medicare allows a G0444 (Annual depression screening, 15 minutes) annually, waiving the copayment/coinsurance and deductible.

Many billers use procedure code 96127 for non-governmental plans.  (As always, check the official code descriptors to ensure your office is adhering to all billing requirements.)
